Coming soon: glitchDS for the PC/Mac as a MIDI sequencer
Posted on March 24th, 2009 14 commentsI decided to postpone the release date of the new PC/Mac port of glitchDS a week or two in order to add a few more features and really focus on the interface. I’m striving to make the new program as intuitive as possible. Unlike the DS version, the PC/Mac version is a MIDI sequencer only.
Make Magazine snapped a photo of the new application while I was at Handmade Music here.
== UPDATE==
Sorry for the delay. I’m still adding features. For example, I’ve upped the maximum pattern length from 32 to 64 steps. I’ve created quick-file-load and quick-file-save shortcuts (keys 0-9). I also totally forgot about volume control sliders which I’ll be adding tomorrow. I know that none of this means much considering I’ve never really shown off the application yet, but I just wanted everyone to know that I have been working diligently and still intend to release it soon!

great news. can’t wait to see it.

The article said Handmade Music is on the third Thursday of every month. Will you be going to these subsequent events?
-
Clark, no, unfortunately I live in San Francisco and Handmade Music is in New York. I won’t be going to more Handmade Music events in New York unless there’s some special reason. Last Handmade Music event had a focus on Processing, and that’s one of the reasons I showed up. (Besides being able to meet some great people!) I’ll keep my ears out though. I had a great time in New York.

Wow!, is that going to be a Vst one? or Standalone?
-
This is going to be stand-alone. However (and this is somewhat new news), it will have options for syncing to midi or generating midi timecode.

Thanks for your reply, Sync to midi could be very helpful so that it could be sync-driven by Hosts like Ableton Live and so the audio can be route in Live itself through the help of Virtual audio cable…

Since I am looking for a true-blue Mac-based MIDI sequencer that is not specialized or “weird” (like ones that specialize in guitars or drumsets, or so-called “pattern” sequencers, whatever THAT is), I have a few questions:
Will it recognize the standard MIDI output device on the Mac, which is normally Quicktime’s built-in synthesizer?
Will it have some kind of piano-roll note editor?
Will it provide an event-list editor where you can insert, delete and edit event and controller values?
Will it let you set a range of seleted notes to a velocity?
Will it let you use soundfont files (.sf2), such as the one I have loaded in my Quicktime?
If you remember the old Voyetra’s MIDI Orchestrator Plus, that is the kind of functionality I have in mind.
Thanks.

It may serve some coffee as well while playing around with..LOL

Billy Gard: you’re barking up the wrong tree, there is nothing ordinary or traditional about this sequencer. You sound like you’d be best served by Logic, and outside of that (on a Mac) Ableton Live. Those are pretty much your 2 options for decent traditional based DAW software editors/sequencers (whereas on the PCs theres thousands of viable options, sad fact of life). Good luck finding something for your needs, but as I mentioned, Glitch (as its name entails) is far from your needs. Though, you might find it fun or interesting to check out regardless.. so you should still check back when its out.

Please think about of a VST version. It provides the most flexibility
